Wedding Barn History
The Barn is a rustic country wedding barn at Cott Farm, a former free-range egg farm nestled in a valley in rural South Somerset, just outside of the village of East Chinnock.
Owned by the Seyfried family since 1973, the farm has grown and diversified and now includes a farm shop, furniture showroom and, most recently, The Wedding Barn. Originally a chicken house, the barn was a tractor shed for almost thirty years, until it was renovated for the wedding of the youngest Seyfried, Ollie. The transformation was so amazing that a new permanent wedding venue was born in July 2016.
Cott Farm is a family-run business and we are very happy to be involved in every stage of our clients’ weddings – from showing you around the wedding barn in the first place, to being there on the morning of your wedding to co-ordinate your suppliers and ensure everything is just as you want it, and being on call during the day and night to fix any problems.

Wedding Barn in Detail…
The Barn is an elegant timber rustic country wedding barn, complete with the original barn doors to the front exterior. There are tri-folding doubled-glazed doors behind the barn doors, making the entrance flexible in all weathers. The original wooden ceiling beams – now strewn with fairy lights – reflect the rural origin of the building, while the modern reflective ceiling (giving the best interior light for photos) and white painted walls create a simple, elegant blank canvas for you to stamp your style on for your big day. A glass door at the far end of the building, windows in every bay of the barn and sky lights let plenty of natural light flood in to the barn during daytime. At night the fairy lights inside and outside, and the dimmable Chinese paper lanterns, create the perfect ambiance.
The barn is approximately 20m x 10m (200m2) and its floor is carpeted with coir matting throughout, giving a soft and natural feel to the building and adding to its rustic country wedding theme. This is complemented by hessian and lace bunting around the walls, and a handmade built in bar with solid wooden top and apple crate shelving. There is a separate entrance near the bar for the catering team to access their equipment to the side. Our wooden tables, which are included in the hire of the wedding barn, complement the bar and are handmade here at Cott Farm with solid waney-edge wood plank tops and painted legs.
Outside the Wedding Barn
To the front of the barn is a large gravelled area which is ideal for welcome drinks. There are sail canopies available to cover this area to protect your guests from sun (and ok, realistically as it’s England, rain). To the right side of this area is a flower bed, bursting with plants throughout spring and summer, which runs the entire length of the barn. Opposite this is a lawn area which you can use for garden games or welcome drinks. There is also ‘the vegetable patch’ – nowadays planted with flowers – which features a rustic archway entrance.
To the left side of The Barn is our outdoor kitchen with wood-fired pizza over, and our commercial kitchen. There is a side door here for our catering staff to access The Barn.
Parking in the paddock for at least 100 cars is included in the barn hire. There is also hardstanding parking for approx. 20 cars.
We have a large paddock available to hire for you and your guests to camp overnight. Please see Camping & Accommodation…
