The Barn at Cott Farm Hire Costs

What’s included for a full wedding at Cott Farm?

  • exclusive use of the venue, grounds and facilities

How much does it cost to hire The Barn for a Wedding?

Please do request our brochure if you haven’t already; it includes very clear pricing for everything we offer. Our pricing is based upon your specific requirements and is divided into three parts: venue hire (which is fixed, regardless of your guest numbers), catering (variable by number of guests), and lastly your other optional requirements (for example if you’d like canapés or tea and coffee, or if you’d like to book our camping & glamping option).

As a guide price a full wedding tends to range from between £9300 and £18000, depending on your choices and guest numbers. An intimate wedding reception for 60 daytime guests and 100 in the evening would cost a total of £10,620 in 2022 for: Venue hire (exclusive use, including day before & after); Two course wedding breakfast for 60; Pizzas in the evening for 100. A typical wedding based on 100 guests all day and evening would cost a total of £13590 (or £14990 with exclusive use of our campsite & glamping and breakfast on Sunday morning) in 2023 for: Venue hire (exclusive use, including day before & after) & wedding ceremony, Three course wedding breakfast for 100; Pizzas in the evening for 100; Glamping & campsite, including breakfast. A larger wedding with 130 daytime guests and 230 in the evening would cost a total of £15940 (or £17820 with exclusive use of our campsite & glamping and breakfast on Sunday morning) in 2023 for: Venue hire (exclusive use, including day before & after) & wedding ceremony; Three course wedding breakfast for 130; Pizzas in the evening for 230; Glamping & campsite, including breakfast. Obviously the total cost will depend on the exact number of guests you choose to invite, your food and drink choices, and your other specific requirements. All pricing includes UK Value Added Tax (VAT) charged at the rate set by Parliament (currently 20%), which we collect from you and pay to HMRC.

What other costs should we consider?

An additional fee (around £470) is payable directly to Somerset County Council for legal marriage ceremonies, and you are required to obtain wedding/event insurance (from £80) as part of your booking with us. You’re also free to choose your own band, photographer, florist, wedding cake baker – see our recommendations for local suppliers, if you need them.

Do you charge more for a wedding on a Saturday in the Summer?

No. Our pricing is the same all year and we don’t hike our prices up for ‘peak’ days or seasons.

What are the payment terms?

We require an initial booking payment of £2000 to secure your date. This is a fixed amount, regardless of which menu you choose or how many guests you plan to have. Further installments are payable before your wedding date according to the Payment Schedule, with the final balance due 1 month before. The payment amounts are based on a percentage of the total cost of your wedding and we will send you a personal payment schedule based on your booked requirements.

We also require a £500 damage deposit on a separate cheque (this will be returned or destroyed provided there is no damage).


Are we able to have our legal wedding at Cott Farm?

Yes. We are licensed by Somerset County Council to host legal marriages and civil partnerships.

May we have a celebrant-led ceremony instead?

You are welcome to choose a celebrant to conduct a symbolic ceremony at the farm. Please note, unlike registrars, celebrants aren’t able to conduct legal ceremonies in England.

Can we insist on an outdoor ceremony, whatever the weather?

We will always try to make everything happen as you want it on your big day. This includes your preference to have your wedding outside, but unfortunately the weather is one of the things we cannot control. However, we do have the perfect back up plan in place as the barn itself is licensed for ceremonies. We can leave the ceremony location decision until the last possible moment, with all our fingers crossed! Please note the Registrars may insist you have your ceremony inside if the weather is awful, and we can’t overrule them as it is a legal ceremony. Please do trust our experienced team – we will always try and work to your wishes and will help you make a decision in the best interests of everyone.


What is the maximum number of guests we can invite?

The Barn can seat up to 150 people, with ten people on each of our 15 handmade wooden tables.

The maximum number of people at any one event is 300 (note this must include our team members, as well as you, your guests and your suppliers).

Do you have any restrictions on children?

We do not restrict the number of children you may invite but, if more than 10% of your guests are under 14 years old, you must arrange a suitably qualified and insured creche or childminding service for the duration of the wedding. Please see our list of  local wedding suppliers if you need ideas.

Catering & Bar

May we bring our own caterers?

Sorry, no, we do not offer ‘dry hire’. We are a full service wedding venue, and our catering options include our trusted team to provide all food and service from your welcome drinks onwards. We also take care of hiring all equipment for your chosen menu and provide a wedding coordinator; kitchen & equipment; crockery, cutlery & glass hire; tables laid; and a team of catering staff. All catering must be provided by us.

May we write our own menu?

Yes, of course. Our menus are examples of popular wedding breakfasts, but you are welcome to write your own two or three course menu instead. Just let us know what you’d like to eat and we can provide a bespoke quote.

Can we choose to have one meal, rather than two? For example can we just have a meal in the day and no evening food?

Normally no. Our venue hire and catering options are designed around couples choosing both a daytime and evening menu, and are priced as such. The average wedding means guests are here for at least ten hours, which means you will need to choose a daytime menu and evening menu.

Do we pay full food prices for children?

This depends on their age and how much they’ll eat. As a general rule children over 12 will be served the same as adults and priced as such. For under 12s, we can offer smaller portions of the adult mains or a separate children’s dish. Children generally work out around 2/3 of the adult catering price (the food is half price, but the plate & cutlery hire price is the same). Note: Desserts are charged at full prices as the portions are unchanged.

What is provided by the venue for the tables?

We provide all tableware for your chosen menu and drinks, including cutlery, plates and bowls, wine glasses, water glasses and flutes. We also provide salt & pepper, water jugs, serving spoons and wine coolers for each table. We take care of laying the tables, leaving you to just add any decorations you wish (or you can use ours) and personalisations, such as name cards.

The Barn has a built in licensed bar.

Do you have a licensed bar?

Yes. Exclusive hire includes a licensed, staffed and fully-stocked bar. This includes a good selection of local and popular drinks, which are reasonably priced at local pub prices.

The bar is a ‘cash bar’, meaning guests buy their own drinks, but you are able to provide drinks tokens or a bar tab, should you wish. The bar accepts cash and card payments.

We are licensed to serve alcohol until Midnight on Saturdays. We do not permit outside bars.

Can we supply our own drinks?

For daytime weddings (excluding special offer weddings) we allow you to provide your guests with a welcome drink, table wine and a toast drink during the day if you would like to. We do not charge corkage.

If you are providing your own bottles, you will be responsible for removing all waste and recycling from these by the end of the hire period.

Each drink will only be served at the appropriate time and are not interchangeable (i.e. Only table wine is permitted during your meal). For evening only weddings you are not permitted to supply any drinks. Alcoholic ‘favours’ are not permitted. Please note we are a licensed premises and there is a limit on what you are able to bring, we do not permit you to provide any drinks beyond your meal and any excess will be packed away for you to take home upon your meal finishing. Guests are strictly not permitted to bring their own drinks at any point.

What time must the party finish?

The bar will close at 12 midnight on Saturdays (11pm Monday to Friday and 10pm on Sundays). All music or entertainment for the event must cease at the bar closing time.

All guests (including your suppliers) must leave the venue and grounds no later than one hour after the bar closing time. These are the terms of our premises licence and cannot be altered.


Can I decorate The Barn? 

Yes. Except for our special offer bookings, you will have use of the barn all day on Friday to decorate and set up (and until Sunday lunchtime to remove your belongings). Neutral bunting, vases and lighting are provided, including fairy lights on the beams and paper lanterns for the roof lights. You are free to decorate The Barn and its grounds as much, or as little, as you’d like. We ask that you are mindful to not damage the fabric or contents of the building and grounds. Hooks are provided on the walls inside the barn for you to hang your own decorations  – please use these and not drawing pins, Sellotape, blu-tack or any other fixings.

Are candles permitted on the tables?

Candles and lanterns are permitted but measures must be taken so that no wax will drip. Candles must be extinguished before departure.

Are we able to set off Chinese lanterns and/or fireworks in the grounds?

Sorry, no. Due to our rural location, there are too many risks with livestock, as well as thatched cottages in the area.

Can we use chair covers?

Our chairs are all wooden to suit the style of the barn and you do not need to use chair covers. However you are welcome to bring your own chair covers or sashes if you would prefer.

May we use confetti in the grounds?

You may use real flower confetti but please notify your guests that we do not allow any synthetic (including that labelled ‘biodegradable’) confetti anywhere within the grounds, including ‘table confetti’ inside the barn.

Can guests camp in camper vans or caravans, as well as tents?

If you have booked our glamping & camping option, your guests are very welcome to bring campers etc. Please  note the campsite is laid to grass and we do not have electric hook up facilities.

Sorry, but we cannot permit overnight stays by anyone if you have not booked our glamping & camping option due to insurance. 

Can guests set up their tents before the wedding?

Yes! If you have booked our glamping & camping option, you have exclusive use of the venue from Friday morning and your guests may set up and take down their tents at anytime during your hire period. Please do note staying overnight is only permitted on the night of the wedding.

If people stay on site, do they also have to leave The Barn by 1am?

All guests must leave The Barn and outside seating area by 1am (or midnight Monday-Friday). Those camping must head back to the campsite. No sound systems/amplifiers etc are permitted in the campsite.

Can our guests contact you directly to book their camping or breakfast?

Our glamping and camping option is one price for the exclusive use of the whole camping field (including the five furnished bell tents). Therefore we don’t offer an option for guests to book individually with us. Likewise, breakfast can only be provided for at least 30 guests and we can’t offer this to individuals. It’s not a problem for you to ask your guests to pay you for their camping pitch and breakfast, however you are responsible for making such arrangements with your guests. 


Is The Barn wheelchair accessible?

The Barn is all at ground level and is accessed by a gradual ramp so is suitable for wheelchair users. There is a level access restroom located in The Nook.


Can we hire The Barn for a midweek wedding?

Yes but we never host more than one wedding, including set up and pack down, at a time. Our weekend exclusive hire is from Friday to Sunday. For midweek weddings we can offer exclusive hire from Tuesday to Thursday. Our pricing is the same all year – we don’t hike our prices up for ‘peak’ days or seasons.

Do you welcome same-sex weddings?

Absolutely! We are delighted to welcome and host every couple on their special day.

Are we able to use The Barn for a pre-wedding party the night before, or the day after?

If you and your guests are camping, you are able to use The Barn the following morning for breakfast. With or without camping, we can provide catering options for breakfast or lunch the following day. However, the price of the wedding barn hire is for a single-day event and the additional time we include is soley to give you time to set up and pack down without stress. If you do wish to extend your party, please contact us with your requirements and we’ll do our best to accommodate you.

Can guests leave their cars overnight and collect them the next day?

Yes, guests may leave their cars parked overnight at Cott Farm at their own risk. We highly recommend guests pre-book taxis because of our rural location. Please ask us if you’d like contact numbers for local taxi companies.

Cars must be collected before your hire period ends, at which time the car park gate is locked!

What toilet and washroom facilities are included?

NEW for 2021: We now have luxury toilet facilities in our unique and handmade shepherd’s hut!

These fabulous new facilities are included for all weddings and events at Cott Farm. Outside is a traditional shepherd’s hut, whilst inside you’ll find luxurious loos with three cubicles in the ladies and a cubicle and three urinals in the gents.

There is also The Nook, our couple’s private dressing room, which has a level-access toilet and a shower.

Is the venue heated?

Yes. Our very effective heating makes the barn ideal for winter weddings and celebrations.

Can we bring our dog?

All members of the couple’s family, including dogs, are welcome! We regret doggie guests are limited to the bride(s) and groom(s)’s pets only. Dogs are strictly not permitted inside our bell tents. We can recommend local dog-sitters if required.

Do you have public liability insurance?

The Barn at Cott Farm and the suppliers we commission for your wedding or event have public liability insurance. Any suppliers you commission directly for your wedding or event need to have their own cover, and will be required to supply evidence of this insurance in advance of your wedding or event.
