Weddings usually focus on the adult experience so aren’t necessarily suitable for children. In our experience, children at weddings aren’t a problem in themselves but the problem comes when parents don’t parent. If you want to invite children to your wedding, you need to have child-friendly activities and most importantly you need to have separate responsible adults (not guests) to supervise them. We have recommendations for local wedding crèche companies.

If you’d prefer to focus on your own wedding day experience and your adult guests, here’s some suggestions for how to firmly (and politely) let parents know they should make their own childminding arrangements.
5 ways to say you’re having a child free wedding on your invitations:
1 Make it about them: While we adore your children, our celebration is for adults only. Please make it a date night. We can’t wait to celebrate with you!
2 About them again: We hope you will understand our decision to make the wedding children-free, and take the opportunity to celebrate in style!

3 Short & sweet: We love your kids but you need a night off. Adults only please!
4 Short & less sweet: Please note this will be an adults-only celebration.
5 Blame the venue: Unfortunately due to space limitations, we are having an adults-only reception. The only children attending are those who are part of our wedding party.
